Acupressure Treatment

Often people think of acupressure as acupuncture without the needles. As acupressure also helps promote relaxation and overall wellness and treats the condition. It is also one of the Asian Bodywork therapies rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupoints or acupressure points lie along meridians or channels, like acupuncture. Through these invisible channels flow vital energy or a life force called qi (ch’i). The meridians begin at your fingertips, connect to your brain, and then connect to your organ associated with a meridian. It helps release endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers that help relieve pain and create a general feeling of well-being. Acupressure may help with specific conditions such as back pain, headache, fatigue, anxiety, stress and tension, feelings of melancholy, and immune system deficiencies. Research suggests that certain types of pain are linked with feelings of anxiety and worry. However, acupressure may be beneficial for people of all ages, but pregnant women and people with high blood pressure should avoid trying it.

How Does Acupressure Work?

Depending on your condition, you may have to sit or lie on the massage table. The practitioners use their fingers, palms, elbows, or feet or devices to apply pressure to acupoints on the body’s meridians. Sometimes, therapy involves stretching or acupressure massage, as well as other methods. The practitioner may gently press on acupressure points on your body, lasting for about an hour. You may need several sessions to see the best results. Acupressure also helps with your emotions, spirit, and mind.
